TfGM and local businesses share safe travel advice ahead loosening restrictions

12 April saw another step forward in the easing of lockdown restrictions and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is working with businesses and employers to support employees and customers to travel safely as they start to return.

With more people expected to be using public transport to access newly reopened shops and restaurants, as well as for those returning to offices across the city-region, TfGM has produced a factsheet for businesses to help them support employees and workers travel safely.

From 12th April, all services will be running at normal pre-Covid frequencies in Greater Manchester; however, social distancing, which remains in place until 21 June at the earliest, means capacity is limited on public transport, especially at busier times. Car journeys are already at 85% of pre-COVID levels; trams are reduced to 25% of normal capacity, and buses to 40%. As a result, TfGM is asking businesses to support staff by encouraging them to travel at quieter times where possible, such as before 7am, between 10am and 3pm, or after 6pm, as well as promoting walking and cycling for shorter journeys.

As well as the factsheet for businesses included below, TfGM has also produced a media pack for businesses to share information about safe travel with customers, as well as for communications internally with staff. The media pack includes a range of suggested social media content, as well as appropriate images and graphics to accompany them, plus A4 posters.

The media pack is available to download here, with visual content to download here; you will need to enter your name and email address but no password is required.
